YCDMF is a local nonprofit making humanitarian organization primarily concerned with improving the livelihood of degraded Yeteem (orphaned) children and destitute mothers suffering from poverty, hunger etc. who need the support and assistance of others. The idea of supporting the poor came into reality with the onset of the 1983/84 drought that ravaged the country and has affected nearly 10 million people looking for assistance.Victims faced death through starvation, dislocation of communities and breakdown of families.

It is mostly mothers and children who were exposed to consequence of the drought incidence. Mothers and children were left with no care takers. The 1987 drought had the same catastrophic consequence accounting for the suffering of people and the loss of the life of millions.
